Just when you thought the Isle Of Wight festival couldn’t get any better – This Feeling/Pirate Studios/Pretty Green announced this killer line-up. Bringing together heavyweights from across the This Feeling zone: Avalanche Party, Jordan Allen, VIDA and Hey Charlie are set to headline this year’s stage along with over 30 of the finest new acts around.
In the first of a succession of articles, we take a look at the four top bands on the bill.
If there is one band you need to see at IOW its feral garage-rock, five piece Avalanche Party. Set to be one of the most energetic and exciting performances of the whole weekend, the band rightfully earn their place at the top of this insanely brilliant line-up. Gigs are always euphoric, sweaty and extremely satisfying with Jordan Bell and Jared Thorpe on vocals and guitar, Kane Waterfield on drums, Joe Bell on bass and Glen Adkins on keys. The band are racking up die-hard fans at a phenomenal speed and gaining nationwide acclaim for their unforgiving, raw live performances that always leave you wanting more. We cannot wait to witness their show at one of the biggest and best festivals in the UK. Definitely a band you need at the top of your must see list.
On the rise, Jordan Allen hail from Greater Manchester and sees Danny Quin on guitar, Kieran Loughran on bass, Nathan Howard on drums and their namesake, Jordan, as the charismatic singer/songwriter. They are forging their way in the industry as a true 21st century rock’n’roll band having built a solid reputation over the last couple of years for releasing top tracks each and every time. Jordan sings with true passion and has an infectious stage presence that is certain to wow the festival crowds over.
Scottish lads, VIDA continue to storm their way onto the music scene across the UK. Jamie Pollock, Nathan Evans, Craig Scobbie, Jamie Piggott and Greg Ballantyne make up the five-piece, who’s growing reputation and catchy, very 90’s Brit Pop sound has seen them receive support and recognition from many outlets including XFM, Soccer AM, This Feeling, Fred Perry and Britpop Revival amongst countless others.
A band really starting to come into their own, fresh-faced London based grunge-pop trio Hey Charlie are Lizz (guitarist & vocalist) and Sophie (bassist & vocalist) and Lauren (drums). The band released their ‘Young & Lonesome’ EP last October with two new tracks She Looks Like A Dreamer & Cheer Up Princess. With a set of songs that will stick in your heads for days and unforgettable live performances, I would not be at all shocked to see these girls following in Bang Bang Romeo’s footsteps and ending up on the main stage in years to come. Check out their most current release ‘Love Machine‘ below.

One thing you can expect from the This Feeling/Pirate Studio/Pretty Green stage is a huge sense of community where bands, fans, photographers and press all join together to lead the movement of bringing guitar bands quite rightfully back to the forefront of the UK’s music scene. Bang Bang Romeo played this stage as well as the Big Top last year and this year sees them arriving at the festival with a worldwide record deal under their belt and a slot on the main stage alongside the likes of Liam Gallagher and Kasabian. Founder of This Feeling Mikey Jonns excels at giving the best new and upcoming bands a chance to live their dream, showcase their music to the world and be part of the loving This Feeling family.
If last year is anything to go by this tent – of course – will be the hub of all good things to come musically in the next few years, so make sure you sample some of the very best hidden talent on the underground scene on the smaller stages while you still can.
This year’s Isle of Wight Festival takes place on 21st – 24th June at Seaclose Park, Newport and will feature headliners Depeche Mode, The Killers, Kasabian and Liam Gallagher. The Script, James Bay, Blossoms and Van Morrison are also set to take the stage across the weekend.
