Our next interviewee soon to grace Mikey Jonn’s ‘This Feeling Big in 2018’ Nambucca stage is Joe Williams, lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist from Welsh indie rock four-piece, Himalayas. Hailing from Cardiff, they cite influences from The Beatles to Green Day via Cher. The guys always deliver a set that’s melodic, fresh, cheeky and full of hooks and will be showcasing their recent release ‘Thank God I’m Not You’ on Saturday night, the track which has amazingly been streamed over three million times! We spoke to Joe about how 2018 is shaping up for Himalayas so far.

You’re going to be playing This Feeling’s first gig of 2018 – how excited are you?!

It’s a massive honour to be involved and to be playing such a huge event. It’s always a real pleasure playing for This Feeling. Mikey has given us and many young bands a hand up the ladder and This Feeling is an amazing thing for young bands. It’s definitely a privilege to be a part of the This Feeling family.

Have you played Nambucca or Camden before?

We have played Nambucca before, again for This Feeling and it’s definitely one of our favourite venues. My family once lived near Holloway Road so it’s a special place for me to play.

Himalayas have had an amazing year with releases, gigs and festivals! On reflection, what was your best bit of 2017?

Our best gig of 2017 was probably at Reading Festival. Something we’ve all dreamed of playing, ever since we were in School. It was a festival we had all been to and to have the tent so packed out was unreal.

Listen to their single ‘Thank God I’m Not You’ is Radio X / This Feeling ‘Track Of The Week’ here:

Do you have any new year resolutions for you personally and for the band?

To play more gigs and meet more new people, as far as the band goes. Personally… probably do everything twice as hard, twice as fast.

So, how’s 2018 looking for you guys so far?

It’s looking very prosperous. We have a massive UK tour with This Feeling coming up this February with our biggest hometown show yet, in Cardiff at Clwb Ifor Bach. We also have more news that hasn’t been announced yet that we’re very excited about!
