It’s not long now until the extraordinary line up at The Harley graces us with its presence. A selection of the finest up and coming rock’n’roll talent in the country – The Wholls, MINT and The Kavaliers play on Saturday 24th March. In true This Feeling fashion it’s going to go off BIG-TIME. We caught up with the three bands to chat burgers, the gig and each other. Feel the love….
The Wholls had a monumental year last year. 2017 saw them release their self-titled debut album and tour extensively. The band will have played up and down the country by the time they set foot in Sheffield. I asked the boys what we can expect from the evening..
‘Tunes. Hooks. Choruses. That’s what we do! We got some new stuff some of it might make the set, some of it you might have to wait for’
They played at The Harley back in January with Bang Bang Romeo and remember having an excellent night, commenting, ‘Still dreaming about those burgers to be fair!’ The band have a solid reputation for their huge stage presence and anthemic choruses that are delivered with an electric energy.
Having played Sheffield a number of times at venues such as The Rocking Chair, Plug, The Frog and Parrot, The Harley, they love playing our steel city.
‘Every show, the crowd have been on it from the start. I reckon ‘cos of Sheffield’s music heritage, the people there have got it in their blood. They know how to have it and we feed off that!’
I asked them what they’d be looking forward to about playing with The Kavaliers and MINT:
‘We played with Mint in Cambridge last week and they’ve got the lot. Set starts with a bang and just gets better and better. Love em. Check out their new tune ‘Superglue’. Be good to watch Kavaliers too. We’ve had their ‘The Right Thing’ single on in the tour van. It’s like Shed Seven and Stone Roses have done a few tracks together. Classic stuff.’
Whatever they play will be high energy – they promise a couple of new tunes, new shirts and new haircuts. ‘So, yeah come check that!’
They are currently promoting their latest music video for Going Down which they shot underwater over in Berlin.
‘You should definitely watch it otherwise we almost drowned for nothing!’
This track is a perfect example of their indie-influenced rock ‘n’ roll and comes with heavy riffing, big hooks and huge choruses that gets the crowds singing, dancing and whipped into an absolute frenzy.
The Wholls will utterly blow away any audience you put them in front of and this band is bang on the top of their game and heading for major stardom. An absolute must see.

Talking to Zak, lead singer from MINT earlier, he told me,
‘We are super excited to return to The Harley. We’ve been in Sheffield a few times on tour and its always amazing for us thankfully!’
Their most recent single ‘Superglue’ is already causing commotion amongst critics with Gigslutz describing it as..
‘Energy, massiveness and contagiousness of any track they’ve unleashed before, but with more fuzz, more attitude and lashings more filth’
Mint are undoubtably, becoming the kings of the hard rock -tinged pop song.
They’re looking forward to playing live on Saturday and have lots of new stuff to share on the night – in fact, they told me, it’s almost an entirely different set to what people will have seen before. Zak said that he once came to The Harley for a night with an ex of his and after being a punter there was determined to play it one day.
‘I love the venue, the food, the staff. It’s all amazing. Sheffield people seem to be kinda similar to the party animals in Cleethorpes and THAT IS AMAZING.’
Playing on tour with The Wholls has been a real trip.
‘We are obviously psyched to be on tour with The Wholls, we are stoked to be invited on such a brilliant tour, it’s been nothing but carnage so far so ROLL ON SHEFFIELD!’

Jordan Booth, drummer with local band The Kavaliers, told me they’re looking forward to playing The Harley; they’ve heard great things about the sound in there and can’t wait to smash out their new single ‘The Right Thing’ and their new song ‘Under my Skin’.
It also happens to be Matt’s and Sam’s birthdays on Saturday so they assured me they’re pulling out all the stops for a big bash. The boys can’t wait to see The Wholls – Sam is getting stuck in to ‘Roll Out’ at the moment.
‘I listened to Roll Out – live at Leeds earlier, lots of attitude and the chorus has been stuck in my head ever since.’
They are also looking forward to hearing MINT after listening to their tunes on Spotify. Matt loves the track ‘Hypoallergenic’ and can’t wait to see them play.
Playing This Feeling again is going to be something special for these guys and The Kavaliers say they are just going to soak up the whole evening.
‘It’s a banging line up and should be a top night!’
