We’ve been told for years guitar music’s dead.
Where’s the next big band gonna come from?
They’re here, right here, right now…..
In part one of our This Feeling Alive tour preview we spoke about headliners Bang Bang Romeo, The Shimmer Band, Blackwaters and the fantastic work the This Feeling team have done over the past eleven years. In the next series of gig previews, we are talking venues and special guests. As if the TF team hadn’t soothed our longing for the best guitar music in the coolest venues with the headliners, they have also invited the cream of the crop of special guests that we can’t not rave about too.
We start our future gig journey in….
The first date of the Alive tour kicks off in spectacular fashion in The Shimmer Bands hometown, Bristol, at the award winning venue Thelka on October 1st. Named the best small venue in the South West by the NME in 2011 and 2012 the 500 capacity get up is on a boat. The Thekla is a world-famous live music venue and club space, operated by independent national promoter DHP Family, on board a converted German cargo ship moored in Bristol Harbour since 1984.
This Feeling are staying true to form by supporting many, much loved, independent venues up and down the UK on the Alive tour.
Joining Bang Bang Romeo, The Shimmer Band and Blackwaters will be London band YVES.
Catchy, infectious guitar driven melodies with a choruses so big they demand to be belted out at the top of one’s voice (after only one listen). If you’re a fan of Catfish and The Bottlemen, you’ll love ’em.
YVES hit the scene in June 2015 with self directed video 3AM. A preview to their debut EP ‘When The Day Comes‘ released in May 2016, the band went on to play key festivals including Truck Festival, Y Not, Reading and Leeds.
With a host of support tours, gigs at some of the best clubs in the UK and over 10k views on YouTube under their belt, the band are loud!
They play electrifying sets with thunderous guitar riffs, coupled with strong melodies and are by far one of the most exciting new bands coming out of the UK right now. We asked YVES how it felt to be playing on the Alive Tour.
‘It’s gunna be a great night for everyone involved, the line up is class and just shows how much This Feeling are backing and showcasing the future of music’
A night not to be missed at one of the quirkiest and best venues Bristol has to offer, get your tickets pronto…

THE SHIMMER BAND
The Shimmer Band have only released three singles so far (‘Freedom’, ‘Sunkick’, ‘Jacknife and the Death Call’) but they’ve gained such a huge following in so little time doing serious damage at this summer’s festivals. The band make soaring euphoric electronica-infused indie with nods to late ’90s Verve, U2, Doves and Kasabian. Arenas await these lot but academy’s will get their roof well and truly blown off come October.
BANG BANG ROMEO
Bang Bang Romeo’s song ‘Johannesburg’ is the perfect introduction to rising Doncaster four-piece guitar band. A sound layered Hammond, brass, Ennio Morricone-esque warbly reverb and overarching magnetism of lead singer Anastasia Walker comes across like Shirley Bassey if she’s grown up on a diet of The Last Shadow Puppets, The National, and Fleetwood Mac. Anthemic, stadium ready new single ‘Chemical‘ is out now.
Formed at University in Guildford three years ago, indie rockers Blackwaters make clever, raw indie punk and are a perfect outfit to sit beside bands like The Libertines. The band currently only have a handful of singles online and with their Dead Kennedys-esque energy and Essex-raised singer Maximillion Tanner’s Jamie T-esque ear for pop hooks, the band are all set to explode.
