Reading festival has always been a hotbed for guitar music, both old and new. 2018 is not different with Fall Out Boy and Kings of Leon both headlining and plenty of familiar names gracing the other stages including Wolf Alice, DMAs and Slaves. The Blinders – BBC Introducing – Friday
The Doncaster 3 piece are ready to take on the world, their debut album Columbia drops soon. They are already getting plenty of air play from Radio 1, Radio 6 and Radio X, now is the time to catch them on a small stage.
Yonaka – Festival Republic – Friday
Signed to Atlantic records the Brighton rockers just dropped their EP ‘Teach me to fight’ which is getting a great reception. When you couple this with their earlier EP ‘Heavy’ and their set will be an outstanding one.
Himalayas – BBC Introducing – Friday
The Welsh indie 4 piece have been making waves all year, support slots with the likes of Kaiser Chiefs, Cribs and Marmozets a host of festival appearances. With 5 million plus streams on this track alone they are certainly on the way too much bigger things.
HMLTD – Festival Republic – Saturday
HMLTD are visually and aurally stunning, a heady mixture of post punk blended with pop whilst simultaneously putting on an art exhibition of a show.
Starcrawler – Festival Republic – Saturday
LA base Starcrawler blend the heaviest of riffs with grunge laden punk and a touch of glam metal to boot. Imagine a female Ozzy with a young Slash on guitar and you’ll be partly there.
The Snuts – BBC Introducing – Saturday
Scottish indie rockers have a host of anthems and are selling out their Scottish gigs with ease, the rest of the UK is next. Recommended to catch now before they start getting too big.
Twisted Wheel – BBC Radio 1 Stage – Sunday
After a long hiatus the Wheel are back with a new EP ‘Jonny Guitar’ and a renewed appetite to make a real break through into the main stream. With Liam Gallagher saying they are better than ever it seems this could be the start of something special.
Saltwater Sun – BBC Introducing – Sunday
Reading based alt rock band who are blending pop with grungy riffs to great effect and an reputation for some high energy live shows.
Lady Bird – The Pit/Lock up – Sunday
The heavy rocking trio telling urban tales with punk fuelled lyrics. No wonder they’ve been signed to the Slaves record label.
