After running for over 65 five years, it has been announced that the publication will be completely digital from now on.
This comes after chief editor Mike Williams announced his stepping down of his role at the recent NME Awards show, as well as their previous publisher, Time Incorporated was also sold to a private company for an undisclosed fee. NME has been renowned and has been credited for acclimatising with the climate of the music industry, outliving previous titles such as Melody Maker and Smash Hits. It’s championing of artists such as Arctic Monkeys and Noel Gallagher will be ever recognised, as well as dedicating multiple pages to up and comings artists, through its paid period. However, once going free, NME struggled to keep a readership, with its fans being disinterested by its coverage of pop artists and TV shows alike.
The final issue of the NME will be distributed on Friday 9th March.
