MERC A/W '17

Spring is here and Merc Clothing is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year with their SS17 range. We are massive fans of Merc here at NE, not only is the quality of their garments impressive but their customer service is second to none. Ash and I both have a critical eye for detail and it takes a lot to impress us, which Merc effortlessly seem to do every time they release a new range.

For anyone who might not be familiar with the brand here’s a smidge of their history. The brand, was founded way back in 1967 and Merc had a shop on the famous Carnaby Street in London. In the mid-to-late 1960’s, when the whole mods vs rockers war had calmed down somewhat, several rock bands, including The Who and the Small Faces adopted a mod style. London became synonymous with fashion, music, and pop culture in these years, a period often referred to as “Swinging London.”

Merc played a huge part in that era providing fashion for some of the best-dressed mods in London, back then their clothing originally focused only on the mod and skinhead styles, but these days they have adapted to target anyone who appreciates well-made clothing and a sharp look.

Northern Exposure’s Ash and Brad modelled some key pieces from the SS17 range whilst I’m going to give you my thoughts from a female perspective.

Referencing the classic Field jacket, this stylish version comes in a durable but soft cotton twill and features four practical pockets, with hidden red tartan inserts around the top pockets and in the sleeve cuffs. Finished with the Merc badge on the left arm. 100% Cotton Twill.

From the battlefield to the high street…..

Who doesn’t love a good old field jacket? I do on a man and it’s a definite head turner. The way a man dresses is massively important, and any guy who has an eye for style stands out like a sore thumb to me! Ha. This is definitely one of a stylish man’s staples, this style of jacket has been worn in iconic films like  Taxi Driver, Serpico, and True Romance as well as many others. Many famous stars are and were lovers of the style, including Liam and Noel Gallagher, John Lennon and Bob Dylan. Priced at £99.00 this jacket is well stitched and a nice fit, perfect for spring/summer and definitely going to get you noticed for all the right reasons!

A new paisley print adapts the classic Merc polo. The pattern is placed over the front panel. The BARNES is crafted into a classic cut with single tipped short sleeves and a classic polo collar with a 3 button placket. 100% Cotton Jersey.

Paisley is my absolute favourite pattern for menswear, and this t-shirt is a real eye catcher. Every single time Ash has worn this polo shirt, everyone asks ‘Where did you get that from?’. It fits perfectly and is made from a quality cotton material, it also washes great and does not lose any shape or colour. A stylish and classic must have, I absolutely love it. It easily beats any Pretty Green or Fred Perry polo on sale right now and at only £55.00 this is one polo you need hanging in your wardrobe.

The Merc polo is the very definition of a classic. The HESTON short-sleeved polo shirt is delivered in a soft cotton fabric and features a geo jacquard front, three button placket and contrast colour sleeves, collar and hem. 100% Cotton

The Heston Knit polo is a perfect fit and the colourful geo pattern really makes a bold statement. It has a lovely feel, (which I experienced before Brad put it on…) It washes really well and is made to Mercs usual high standard. The quality of Merc knitwear always exceeds any other brand, Ash has quite a few of them and they wear really well, easily worth the £65.00.

Let the geo print take centre stage with the SHIPLEY short sleeve shirt. This stylish mainstay features a button- down collar and chest pocket with our signature crown emblem embroidery. 100% Cotton.

Shirts at Merc are always of the highest quality and a great fit and this is no exception.

Cool shirt; stylish and comfortable. The usual premium quality from Merc and looks very smart, great for those summer Saturday nights in the beer garden. A steal at £55.00.

Quick shout out to all the Paisley lovers!

Another item while I’m here that I’d like to give a mention is a sale item worn below by Ash below, the JAGIE FINE PAISLEY PRINT SHIRT. Massively recommend this shirt and at only £30 in the sale, you’d be a fool not to purchase one. Looks cracking on.
