First day of TRNSMT gets off to a sizzling start!
The gates have opened on Glasgow Green for the TRNSMT festival with 40,000 music fans expected to flock to the site to watch performances from acts, including Jessie J, James Bay, The Script and headliners, Stereophonics.
One of the most talked about guests today has undoubtedly been the sunshine, which led to event organisers advising people to look after themselves while they enjoyed the music.
Says Alan McWilliam, onsite medical manager:
“We’ve had a positive start to the event with 15 people presenting to medical for minor ailments. It’s a real scorcher today and it looks set to continue for the rest of the weekend so we advise fans to make sure they use sun screen throughout the day and to keep hydrated – especially if they’re drinking alcohol. There’s free sun cream available at welfare as well as free water points across the site.”
Says Superintendent David Pettigrew, Police Scotland:
“Public safety is our top priority and the event has started very positively. We encourage those attending over the rest of the weekend to come prepared for the warm weather and to know what they can and can’t bring on site so they can have an enjoyable festival. Remember that there are no legal drugs and if you do attempt to bring any onsite, you will be arrested. Don’t take the risk of ruining your weekend before it’s even started.”
Says Geoff Ellis of DF Concerts & Events:
“There’s few places more beautiful in the sunshine than Glasgow and from the moment Picture This kicked things off on the main stage, the atmosphere has been unreal.”
“We’ve got two whole weekends filled with incredible names, the most delicious street food, the greatest audience in the world and to top it off, the best weather we’ve seen in Scotland in a long time.”
“So, make sure you refuel, refill and reapply and I’ll see you down the front for the Stereophonics.”
