Cleargreen doesn’t need any introducing to Northern Exposure, we’ve been following the band for the past three years and watched their journey to be one of the most popular rock and roll bands in Manchester. It’s always good for a catch up tho and if you haven’t heard of the band hopefully this little taster will get you checking them out. Based in Kearsley, Greater Manchester consists of Ali Staley (Vocals & Guitar), Liam McIver (Bass Guitar), Mike Wilcock (Drums), Josh Haworth (Guitar).

Cleargreen is powered by the formidable songwriting partnership of Ali Staley and Liam Mciver alongside two of the northwest most complete musicians in Josh Haworth and Mike Wilcock. The band was started by Ali and has since seen many line up changes. The dynamic of the band completely changed in 2016 when Liam came into the fold through the recommendation of mutual friends and took on some of the songwriting duties, giving the band two times the ammo. 2018 has seen the addition of Josh and Mike as this line up is the most solid it’s ever been. Mike offers the band an uncompromising backbone while Josh adds tremendous amounts of style and flair to their songs and is worth any entry fee anywhere they play. The band is a perfect combination of big songs and big musical personalities, always striving to uncover the classics of tomorrow. Having been listed Fred Perry’s Top Manchester Bands you need to hear, as well as huge home town shows at Manchester 02 Ritz and a 500 capacity sell out at Rebellion, this band can go beyond. Fresh off the back of a summer of big gigs supporting the likes of Twisted Wheel and gracing the Allotment Stage for ‘This Feeling’ at YNOT festival, the band are ready to kick on. 2019 is set to be even bigger for the group as they’ve been announced as one of ‘This Feeling’s Big In 2019’ picks which will surely propel them forward onto massive things.

Please introduce yourselves to our readers, who you are, what you play and how you formed?

We are Cleargreen, Ali (vox/guitar) Liam (vox/bass) Josh (lead guitar) Wilcock (drums). We’re your next favourite band, go check us out right now, then get back to this…. go on search Cleargreen. Ali formed the band time ago (5 years) he’s the only original member, we’re like the Sugarbabes, he might be next to go who knows. Over about 2 years Liam joined then Josh then Wilcock. basically this current line up (and final) has been going about 12 months and shits changed, we’ve found our click, just took fucking ages but it’s been worth the while
What style of music would you describe yourself as and what influences do you draw upon?
Rock and roll, thrown a bit of rap in one tune, our latest singles very DMAs but our main peeps are definitely Oasis, Roses, Monday’s
What are you currently up to at the moment music-wise?
Last week we had MMTV go check them out, Adidas Spezialz official afterparty then MADCHESTER and this weekend we have This Feelings 13th birthday bash down London.  We are mad for this, them lot at TF are a set of legends and are helping us make it happen, to play there birthday gig is mega, we’re going down with our boys Joey, Sam, Mikey and Harry from RATS so think it’s gonna be a messy one.

Bring it on, we’ve just recorded our next single and it’s gonna blow your head off,  it’s gonna catch fire. Just remember ‘Messiah’.
And outside of music, how’s life in general?
Work, getting sacked, quitting work, washing, bills, boring shit. Some little bastard robbed a ped then set fire to it outside our house the other week, set two parked cars on fire and burnt our gaff a bit. Big respect to the fire service for sorting it in time or we’d of been fucked.
What’s the happiest lyric you’ve ever written?
‘At the end of it all, we’re gonna rock n roll our lifestyles baby’
And the saddest…?
‘And I know, before too long, I’m moving on, this world is boring’
Would you rather live in a Yellow Submarine or an Octopus’s Garden and why?
Neither, I wanna be on that Magical Mystery Tour, cos that probably involves the lot, doesn’t it.

What’s the best venue you’ve played so far and what’s would be your dream venue?
Bardfest 2019, 5k heads, massive stage banging sound and top-notch crowd. As far as dreams go we’re buzzing just to play where ever we’re wanted. Your mams kitchen? We’re there.

If you could support any band, past or present who would it be and why?
Gotta be Monday’s back in the day, the Roses, Oasis, Primal Scream. Any of those crazy big mad bands. Imagine The Clash, that’d be wild. Right now Sticky Fingers would be mental or Wolf Alice or summat.
What’s the best thing about being in a band?
The roll after the rock.
And the hardest…?
Spending your last penny on it, can’t even go on holiday if your serious about this band shit, recording, vids, renting vans, merch all cost stupid amounts if you want the best.
Sum your band up in three words?
Thick as fuck.
What tune should readers listen to right now that sums you up the best?
Blue lights or People.
