Indigo Tree are a relatively new band who have been together for just over a year, yet their sound is polished and aged like a rather good Merlot. They hail from Liverpool, so have been weaned on the good stuff, and are bringing to the area a new twist on the usual indie rock offerings. They describe themselves as indie/alt/rock, and are a hardworking band whose live shows indicate they rehearse hard and ensure their audiences hear them at their best. With Tony Manley as lead singer, Adrian Nally on rhythm/lead guitar, James Marc Donnelly on bass and Bart Gazdowicz on drums they are a force to be reckoned with and are not to be missed. Playing regular gigs through a residency in their home town of Liverpool, I hope it won’t be too long before they tour for the rest of us! James Donnelly was kind enough to speak with me while his band mate Tony completed our Quickfire round. Read on!

Tell me a bit about your band & why should we check you out?
Indigo Tree are constantly going from strength to strength, I feel our songs are sounding better than ever, and the newer material is really showing what we are really capable of. We have had to do a bit of adjusting since making the transition from a five to a four-piece band but have really nailed it with the two recent songs we recently recorded. Good things are still to come. The band is good-natured, I think we all secretly hate each other (we don’t) you’d never tell on stage or in the rehearsal room though. It’s often completely bonkers! Why should you check us out though? You should check us out because the tunes are mega you’d be missing out on them if you didn’t.

Who are your major influences and why?
I can’t really speak for everybody else on the major influences but if I had to name a few they would definitely be a big helping of Oasis, a sprinkle of Coldplay and loads of guitars.

If you had to sum the band up in 5 words what would they be?
Often chaotic, mostly brilliant. Sound.

Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics for most of your songs?
It usually goes like this…Tony brings songs fully written, sometimes Adrian writes some chords, or Tony writes lyrics and a cool melody over the top. If not, then Adrian writes music and lyrics and Tony writes the melody. After all of that we all get together and shape the final song in to what you hear on the record. I’d say the main themes of the music are down to everyday scenarios though. Family, wives, girlfriends, cats, dogs, band members and everything in between.

Who is your favourite unsigned/underground band at the moment and why?
Can’t really name one particular artist but we’ve been lucky enough to share the stage with some brilliant bands around Liverpool over the last few years.

What’s in your car CD player right now or last song played on Spotify?
CD in the car is a Madness Greatest Hits which has been spinning in there for the last 6 months. Thankfully, Spotify is full of more than just Madness, last up was the new effort from Foo Fighters – ‘The Sky Is A Neighbourhood’.

Describe to me your live performance.
All depends where we are playing but usually it’s pretty loud, loads of energy and as raw as intended.

On that note do you have any upcoming shows?
We recently agreed a six month residency at various pubs in Wallasey, Wirral.

You’re stranded on a desert island and have album to get through, what is it?
(What’s The Story?) Morning Glory… You know why!

What’s on the horizon, what can we look forward to from you?
Our debut album which I promise will be a cracker. we just need to decide what songs we are going to put on it first.
