With the release of his new single ‘Years From Now’, he is determined to branch out right across the North East.
We caught up with Gaz to talk about how he’s been handling lockdown and what we can look forward to him in 2021…
Please introduce yourselves to our readers, who you are and how you formed?
Ey up! I am Gaz, aka Gaz Price I am a 27-year-old brutally honest, singer songwriter from Hartlepool. I decided to go solo around 2 years ago after being in bands most of my life and I haven’t looked back since. I write hard-hearted songs about life, my upbringing and my surroundings. With the release of my EP ‘Northern Hospitality ’ I am determined to branch out right across the UK.
What style of music would you describe yourself as and what influences do you draw upon?
I would say it was indie if we were to shot it in a category, with a rock n roll mindset. My songs are always a reflection on my reality and my attitude to life! My biggest influences growing up were Greenday and Oasis and I definitely think that shows in my music. If you could boot a footie in a direct line between Dookie and Definitely Maybe, I would say that would be me.
How have things been for you over the lockdown/tier fiasco? What has been the most challenging?
Well, I think like everyone it’s been a bit brutal. I think the complete loss of the music scene and anything social has has been a complete disaster man. I’ve gone from gigging 3/4 times a week and training MMA nearly every day to being stuck at home with nothing but tea bags and my own four walls. Tough times build champions though, I’ve just been writing, planning and working towards the come back. Whenever that is ….
What are your feelings about the current situation and its impact on live music and venues?
There is no other way to say it other than sh*t. The full industry has been abandoned basically. Venues shutting down, people losing jobs. Music is a BIG part of British culture, it’s right up there with a fresh pint in a pub. Everything seems a bit grey without it but all I think about is to come back, IMAGINE the scenes!!! Festivals back, gigs back, pubs back everything packed to the brim with people ready to enjoy it to the fullest, now that I am looking forward too.
Do you think there has been enough help for the industry throughout the crisis?
I’m not sure what helps being given if I’m honest. Rat’s video to Rishi Sunak was my exact feelings on it, what a belter that video was!!
2020 has been understandably riddled with a lot of negativity, what was some positives for you in 2020?
I’ve had a pretty productive 2020 considering so it’s not all doom and gloom. I released my debut EP “Northern Hospitality ” and launched a website with merch so I’ve put some good graft in! I’ve recorded some demos for future use and i’ve finished my next single. With this lockdown shopping craic I’ve been able to get scotch eggs delivered to my door too, what’s not to love about that! haha.
Tell me about your most recent release or upcoming single/album…
“Muskerz” is my next single and it’s my biggest to date. I have recorded this with a full band which has really upped the game. Really excited to get this out there and see how far it gets me!.
What’s the best venue you’ve played so far and what would be your dream venue to play after Covid-19?
Got to be the Cavern Club – that place is iconic and so filled with history, but the cluny in the toon is right up there for me. I love that gaff and the crowd are always up for it! I’m hoping to get on festivals when we are back. Glastonbury is what I’m after. I’ve applied to play just hope I make the cut haha!
Favourite festival you’ve played or want to play and why?
I would love to play Leeds/Reading. I’ve spent some of the best times of my life, 40 cans deep in the crowds there! Would be a cool feeling to come back on the other side of the fence. But Glastonbury would take the cake for me. It’s a staple of music culture, I reckon it would be an experience of a lifetime.
What tune should readers listen to right now of yours that sums you up the best?
I think “Years From Now”, it’s what most people know me for. Proper feel good escapism. If you want to see what Gaz Price is all about that would be the one.
What can we look forward to from you in 2021?
First and foremost the new single “Muskerz” will be coming out. It’s a big tune and I’m excited to share it. I have potentially another 1/2 singles coming after that so it’s going to be a productive year. Covid permitting, I will be gigging all over the shop so come catch me at your local man!
