Sinead caught up with London punk band ‘Slobheads’ for a Northern Exposure ’60 Seconds’ chat!

Tell me a bit about your band? Who are your major influences?

We’re a punk duo from south-west London. A handful of our influences are: Stooges, Stiff Little Fingers, The Clash, Gareth Gates, Cock Sparrer The Doors, Viagra Boys, Ian Dury, The Stranglers, Misfits.

How long have you known each other?

About 5 years.

How did you meet?

Macey:We bumped into each other while we were skateboarding up in London.

Harry: Macey was wearing a Bad Brains t-shirt and I thought it looked quality so we started talking.

Macey: We got talking about bands we liked and a few months later Harry played it cool by asking if I wanted to record backing drums over a few tracks then we met up down Harry’s shed (literally) for the first rehearsal and drunk about 20 Budweisers each, made a load of tunes and chatted shit.

Where have you performed? What are your favourite venues?

The Fighting Cocks in Kingston is our resident watering hole. And Off The Cuff in Herne hill is a sick one we’ve played a few times with sick bands.

Who writes your songs? And what are the main themes or topics for most of your songs?

We both write the music together but Harry does all the lyrics. But it usually just falls together from jamming, theres never any real template, it’s usually pretty spontaneous. Main themes pretty much reflect our day to day lifes.

What has been your biggest challenge as a band?

Probably reaching out to more people and getting recognised as a band. Also getting people to our gigs haha.

Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?

We’re always meeting new people and playing with new bands. We’re enjoying it as it comes basically!

What advice do you have for people who want to form their own bands?

Have a laugh and don’t take it too seriously. Play music for yourself and don’t change to cater to peoples taste.

Do you have any upcoming shows?

Our first gig since lockdown is gonna be 3rd July at a local venue to us called The Holly Tree in Addlestone, then 9th July at The Hope and Anchor, then we’re playing a sick motorcycle festival called The Malle Mile which is up north somewhere, Grimsthorpe I think? Then Blondies in Hackney 15th July, then Fighting Cocks 13th of August, and we’ve got a few more in the pipeline for the rest of the year!

What does 2021 hold for you? What can we look forward to from you?

We’re gunna release an album later on in the year. Expect plenty of outrageous music videos, shit music and lots of fucking about at gigs.
