Sugarspun are an alternative/indie band made up of Jamie McGraw – (Vocals, Writer), Steven Dixon – (Lead guitar, Writer), Andy Graham – (Drums) Luke Bell – (Bass) and Rich Stuart – (Rhythm). Influenced by a lot of 60’s and 90’s bands, the band are eagerly playing various gigs up and down the country to get their excellent tunes heard by a wider audience. What I really love about this band is not just the obviously great music, but the overall look of the band, something about the general aesthetics of the band I think they look cool as and it works.

Tell me a bit about your band?
We are a 5 piece indie/rock band that have only been together since the turn of the year, before that it was just me and Ste as a two piece but after rave reviews from BBC Introducing and some A&R interest we felt the time was right to get a full band set up to play live as we were restricted to performing just acoustically before. The rest of the lads have been great since coming in and learned all the tunes quicker than we envisaged and they are sounding boss.

Who are your major influences?
Heavily influenced by music from 60’s and 90’s era, hopefully our sound fuses both era’s together to get the best of both.

How long have you all known each other?

We’ve all known each other for a while being involved in other projects on and off over the years, Luke the bassist is new to us all though we found him on a local musicians page and what a find he’s been!

How did you meet?
All met though the local music ‘scene’.

Where have you performed?
We played the box in Glasgow earlier this month which was great and that was our first gig as a full band set up, we’ve got gigs in our hometown Carlisle, Liverpool & Barrow lined up as well with hopefully more to be added.

What are your favourite venues?
The Brickyard in Carlisle is a staple venue for us we always get a good crowd there. Manchester & Glasgow are our favourite cities to play though.

Who writes your songs?
Me and Ste write the songs currently but gradually in time other members of the band will no doubt come up with tunes we can use as well.

And what are the main themes or topics for most of your songs?
I always seem to write about either being miserable at work or getting hammered up town, kind of tells you all you need to know about my life.

What has been your biggest challenge as a band?
Getting our music heard to a wider audience, we want to break into the music scenes of the bigger cities.

Have you been able to overcome that challenge?
Depends, we’ll see if never stopping pestering promoters and venues for gigs actually works.

What advice do you have for people who want to form their own bands?
Play any gig you get offered because you never know who could be watching/listening.

Do you have any upcoming shows?
Yeah we play Carlisle (The Brickyard) 31st March, Liverpool (Jacaranda) 7th April and Barrow (The Drawing Room supporting The Chadelics) 28th May. We’re currently trying to arrange shows in Manchester/London and pretty much anywhere else that will take us.

What does 2017 hold for you?
We hope to play as many gigs as possible and build on our air play with BBC introducing.

What can we look forward to from you?
We’ve got 3 more Demos to upload that we recorded in the studio back in Feb so look out for them on our social media and streaming sites.

Where can would-be-fans get more information about you?
